Review of the LG Heat / Cool Window Air Conditioner with Remote – 7000 BTU (LW7010HR)

The LG Heat / Cool Window Air Conditioner with Remote – 7000 BTU (LW7010HR) has the added advantage of functioning as a heater as well as an air conditioner. Owners are very pleased with this air conditioner and rate it as 4.91 stars out of 5 stars. Comments are “wonderful unit…awesome…I love it, and never regretted spending the money on it:, “very pleased”, “quiet and nice”, “excellent buy”, great window AC for bedrooms”, and “love it and strongly recommend it”.

Installation

Most owners found this air conditioner easy to install, with the exception of one who had difficulty with it. The fit wasn’t perfect for her window so she used a flat board and some foam to close the area beyond the pleat extenders. Owners say that you can install the sleeve and then slide the unit in.

Buy from Amazon

Functionality

The bonus to the LG Heat / Cool Window Air Conditioner with Remote – 7000 BTU (LW7010HR) is its’ heater function in addition to its’ air cooling ability.

Owners like the compact size of this air conditioner, with one using it on a boat, and another in a garage workshop. They say it is also perfect for a small guest house. They say that this unit heats well without any worry about heaters and cords on the floor, though note that supplementary heat is necessary on an especially cold day. They say this unit works really well and that heat and cold air change over quickly. They like that this air conditioner keeps the set temperature and is thermostat controlled to shut off when the desired temperature is reached.

Owners also like the energy saver option and find this air conditioner economical to run, with one owner reporting “the upkeep cost isn’t much different from before I got it. “ Some owners use a window unit in the bedroom at night and shut off the central air conditioning, using it only during the day.

Two features that owners especially love are the remote control, with owner saying “I love not having to get out of bed if I get too hot or too cold.” and the re-start feature that will turn the air conditioner back on automatically if there is a power failure during the day, so that you don’t have to come home to a hot or cold house.

Only one owner had anything negative to say at all and that was minor. She said that the drainage hole is not at the lowest point to drain all the water properly. No one else spoke of this at all.

Maintenance & Lifespan

We couldn’t find much on this area. One owner has had his air conditioner for over a year and is still very happy with it. There were no complaints in this regards.

Summary

The LG Heat / Cool Window Air Conditioner with Remote – 7000 BTU (LW7010HR) got high ratings from owners, with an overall 4.91 stars out of 5 stars. They like the compact size, the heater option, (though in very cold weather supplementary heat is necessary), the effective cooling, the quiet running, the economy of use, the energy saver option, and the remote control. Most owners use this air conditioner in the bedroom at night, instead of cooling the entire house with central air. Some use it on boats, or in workshops or guest houses. It is quite versatile with the heater feature as well as air conditioning. Though not for larger areas, this air conditioner functions extremely well in others areas. We would highly recommend the LG Heat / Cool Window Air Conditioner with Remote – 7000 BTU (LW7010HR for anyone looking for a unit for or a small to mid-size room or a workshop…and the heat function is a definite bonus!

Review of the Haier CPRB007XC7 7,000-BTU Portable Air Conditioner with Remote Control

Owners are pleased with the Haier CPRB07XC7 7,000-BTU Portable Air Conditioner with Remote Control, rating it 3.8 stars out of 5. This air conditioner does not require draining, except at end of season, and there are no complaints of leakage. Comments from owners are “great A/C”, “works like a charm”, “loved this product”, “fine product-but remote control malfunctioned after one season”, “great choice”, “AWESOME”, “VERY happy!”, and “2nd summer of use… I love it… I’d buy another with no hesitation if I had a reason ”.

Buy from Amazon

Installation

Owners say that installation is easy, with one describing the installation, “open window, add insert, duct tape insert into window and you’re ready to rock.”

Functionality

The Haier CPRB07XC7 7,000-BTU Portable Air Conditioner with Remote Control is designed to cool one room and most owners use it in the bedroom. One owner described it very well, saying “During the day (I work nights) we get full sun and it still keeps you about 73 degrees. If temps outside reach 90+ it’ll keep you about 75. This runs almost 24 hours a day during 7 months and all you have to do is vacuum the back (cooling fins) and vacuum the front filter (slides out). You never have to drain (I do after winter sets in). I liked ours so much I bought a second for the 3rd floor. As far as noise…you know it’s there but like anything else you get used to it and can tune it out”. Another owner turns his on high about 45 minutes before going to bed, reads for ½ an hour and then shuts it off and turns on a fan. He sleeps well and says. “It’s a highly efficient way to keep my bedroom cool”. Owners like that it can be easily rolled into the closet out of sight during a cool spell. Owners say that this air conditioner is a great choice if you have the type of window that won’t allow for installation of a window unit. One owner says it’s “so good, that I will order a second one.”

Suggestions from owners are:

1. make sure the screws from the hose connector to actual vent is
secured by a screw with bushings to hold it in place.

2. make sure you put a stainless screen outside to prevent objects
from going into the unit.

3. Don”t keep on moving the thing, let it stay in one corner.

4. When leaving the house for an extended period, unplug it.

5. DON’T LOSE THE REMOTE: you can’t control the unit without it (temp, fan speed, mode, timer).

On the down side, one owner reported that the motor on hers went after one year and that cost to repair would have been more than the initial value of the unit. Another owner reported that his remote control malfunctioned after the first year and “most features of the product can only be controlled via the remote control. The only feature available directly on the unit is the on/off switch and default settings (high speed air conditioning set at 70-some degrees).

Maintenance & Lifespan

Many owners are into the second year of use. Only two have reported problems the second year; one with the motor and one with the remote control. One owner suggests vacuuming the back (cooling fins) and the front filter (slides out) periodically.

Summary

The Haier CPRB07XC7 7,000-BTU Portable Air Conditioner with Remote Control would appear overall to be a good unit. This air conditioner doesn’t require draining and there are no reports of leakage. Owners like that it is easy to install, and works efficiently and economically. One owner had the motor go in the second summer, which is an issue, though no one else had this problem. Another had the remote control malfunction in the second year, though we expect that should be fairly easy to replace. As portable units go, we would recommend the Haier CPRB07XC7 7,000-BTU Portable Air Conditioner with Remote Control but with the caution to vacuum it front and back periodically and not to lose the remote!
